Peas, Zucchini, Ears and Milestones

So we had our ups and downs this week. One of the ups was that we found out that James likes peas, zucchini and butternut squash! So after all of the gagging with the sweet potatoes we found something that James likes and wont stop eating! He is even eating cereal at daycare now too!

Unfortunately, while James was eating his solids pretty well, he got his first ear infection. This was very unexpected, but we are certainly happy that Dr. O'Connor was able to see us and confirm that James did have something wrong on Thursday. So, we have been struggling with him to take the Amoxcillian, but he is slowly growing accustomed to the sweet taste. The only upside to the doctor visit was that we found out that James only gained 11 ounces in one month -- hopefully he will gain a full pound next month -- but at least he is gaining!

This weekend has also been a weekend full of teething. We can see James' new bottom teeth bulging inside the gums and we are patiently waiting for them to pop through and we will once again have a very happy baby!

James also had a major milestone as he is 5 months old! How much he has changed in such a short time! We even put him in the doorway jumper, while unsure of it, he did start too loosen up and enjoy it. We have also changed his bedtime from 8:30 to 8:00 p.m.! So he know sleeps from 8 to 6 -- we cant wait until he sleeps till 7!

Dogs, Sweet Potatoes and the Beach!

James was feeling curious about George. George was good and let James pet him, even though he was very jealous that the baby was stealing his throne and attention. James thought it was funny when he would start barking too!
Well, James may look like his dad but he certainly got the Drake gag reflex. We introduced sweet potatoes this weekend, and needless to say James was not to happy with them. Not only would he frown and spit it out, but he would actually gag. It had us all rolling in laughter. Lets hope that he like peas which will be introduced later on this week!
James had fun on his first trip to the beach. This weekend in Rowayton was beautiful, and my parents "vacation" house on Bell Island allowed us to relax, enjoy the warmer and sunny weather and take in the beautiful sights! We all had so much fun waking up to the sunrise over the water!

Milestone Day

We are now officially rolling over from the back to the stomach! While it took James a while, he finally worked his way from his back to his tummy, and even enjoyed being on his tummy for a while. Once he was sick of being on his tummy he rolled himself to his back. It was unbelievable how happy he was rolling back and forth and so much fun to witness yet another first!

James is also really enjoying his solid foods. He is eating his oatmeal cereal a lot better and seems eagor and excited to eat every night. Next step will be introducing sweet potatoes next week -- hopefully its not to messy!

We have also heard repeatedly that James has a "girlfriend" at daycare and in his journal this week, we got the evidence! James and Sydney are fast friends. In almost ever picture the two of them are together holding toys, talking to each other, and doing tummy time almost on top of each other. Needless to say, James is enjoying all of his friends and teachers at school and truly enjoys it.

Solids here we come!

We have started solids! Yeah oatmeal cereal! James has been a pretty fickle eater since he was born and we were surprised when the doctor said that we should introduce oatmeal cereal (not rice bc it will make him even more backed up) to see if he would eat more. So, we took the plunge and James was so excited! He is still trying to figure out how to eat the cereal, but he was so happy to try and we had a couple of great laughs as the cereal ended up from one end of his body to the other!

New Hat and Upset Tummy

James got a new hat and mom and dad are excited since it seems like over night his head grew! Now all the hats we have do not fit. Well thanks to Mrs. and Dr. Evans James now has a warm, cute and monogramed hat! Even better, James doesnt seem to mind wearing this hat, maybe because its soft and doesnt cover his eyes. Oh yes, he still loves that ball! He could play with it all day!


Later that same night mom was playing "super James" with the baby and he decided that it upset his stomach. Before mom could get him down he hit her with his vomit! BULLSEYE!!! James felt better and mom needed a shower! What a fun night.

TV at any cost

So James is a TVaholic. He will contort himself any way possible just to get a glimpse at what is going on. It is a daily struggle to get him away from the TV if it on - he finds it so fasinating - we only hope this doesn't prove to be a life long addiction!

4 Months Old Today!!

James was 4 months old on Jan. 22! On Jan. 23rd he had his 4 month check up! He is healthy and happy! James now weighs 15.1 pounds and is 26 inches long! The doctor thinks he is going to be a basketball player because he is off the charts in height.

Milestone Week

So, James, mom, and dad made it through the first week of daycare. We had a lot of ups and a lot of downs, but it seems like James and the center have started to find their way. James especially likes Wednesday's at daycare because he gets an infant message and mom was happy because they listened to her and did not put any oils on him (a recent study came out saying that lotions and oils with nuts or tree extracts are the reason why so many children have nut allergies). Hopefully next week will prove to be even better and hopefully James will start getting more comfortable eating with someone other than mom and dad!

Another milestone happened this weekend. We put James in his own bedroom and crib to spend the night. James has always napped in his crib, but always slept in mom and dad's room in the bassinet. Last night, after mom cried a lot, we put him in his crib and said goodnight. Sure enough, James slept from 8:30pm to 6:30am - with only one little cry at 11 for his binki! It is so wonderful that he is sleeping through the night and now big enough to sleep all by himself in his room.

With yet another snow storm leaving over 6 inches of snow on the ground, James spent a fun winter Sunday inside watching football. Touchdown Giants! Actually this was a very sad weekend for the Giants as they lost to the Eagles which means they are out of the playoffs. James and his dad had a lot of fun watching the Giants game together and James even tolerated a few screams from mom and dad as Eli and the rest of the Giants offensive missed play after play.

James was also very upset all day, especially by the way the Giants played, but more so because he has really begun the teething process. We just hope those teeth break through soon! Its not fun having a crabby baby and we really can't do anything to help him except give him baby tylenol and cold teething rings. The dr. said to try frozen carrot sticks so we are going to try that next! Yum beta-carotene along with relief -- hopefully James likes it!

Monday marked James first day at daycare. Daddy had a hard time dropping him off and mommy was just relieved that she didn't have to do it! While he seemed to be fine and he was very excited to be picked up by mommy both mommy and daddy felt like they deserted him. Mommy and daddy were also a little naughty as they let James stay up past his normal bedtime so they could spend a little time playing with him and laughing with him. The only upside to this was that we got to see him laugh and he slept through the night for the first time since Christmas! Yes!!! Hopefully day two at the daycare goes better than day one for both mommy, daddy and James.
